Jack Catterall is now listed as the WBO’s No. 1 welterweight contender, a placement some fans have already questioned.
The change appears in the WBO’s latest rankings update, released December 22, which recognizes results through mid-December. Catterall had previously been ranked No. 2 and moves up following recent changes at the top of the division.
Catterall moved up from junior welterweight earlier this year and has gone 2–0 since the switch. He earned a technical decision over Harlem Eubank in July and stopped Ekow Essuman in the 11th round in November.
The spot opened after Devin Haney defeated Brian Norman Jnr to claim the WBO welterweight title, moving out of the contender rankings.
