Anthony Joshua’s long-time rehabilitation coach, Sina “Evolve” Ghami, died in a road accident on Monday, December 29, in Ogun State, Nigeria.
The crash happened in Makun on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. One other person was killed. Authorities have not clarified details about the vehicles involved or the identities of all occupants.
Ghami worked with Anthony Joshua for more than a decade. He was part of Joshua’s team for much of his professional career. His work focused on rehabilitation and managing Joshua’s physical condition between training camps and fights.
The two had known each other since childhood. Ghami stayed involved as Joshua continued boxing. He remained part of the team through different stages of Joshua’s career, including title runs.
Ghami was present for a number of Joshua’s major fights. He was in Joshua’s corner for the 2017 heavyweight title bout against Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium.
Outside of boxing, Ghami also worked with athletes in other sports. He spent time working with the Michigan State Spartans. He also worked with athletes connected to the NBA, NFL, and MLB.
In 2017, Ghami co-founded Evolve Gym. The gym focused on rehabilitation and performance work.
Ghami’s work often took place away from public attention.
