If Kingry loses to Barrios, he’s going to put Turki Alalshikh in a position where he’s going to need to make a difficult decision. He would have to decide whether he still wants to finance the rematch between Garcia and Devin Haney in 2026.
Assuming Turki wants to go ahead with the fight, Ryan would be going into it with a winless streak since 2023, with a 0-2 record. There would be no way of camouflaging those performances, as the whole world would have seen. That’s why it’s critical that Garcia beat Barrio.
Ryan posted earlier today on X, saying, “No time to relax.”
Training hard for this fight will eliminate any excuses for Ryan. If he gets beaten by Barrios, he’ll have to realize that he fought the better guy. Don’t blame the defeat on not training hard or not being mentally engaged. He can’t say the rehydration clause was the reason.
Hopefully, Garcia gives up on his home mitt workouts inside the stately Ryan manor in Los Angeles. Training in the gym is where he whips himself into shape, working alongside young, less well-off fighters who can motivate.
Garcia picked the perfect champion for him to get back on the winning track. Barrios, 29, is coming off back-to-back 12-round draws against Manny Pacquiao and Abel Ramos. In both fights, Barrios looked like the loser, but was saved by the scoring. I was ringside for both, and I didn’t see Barrios as deserving of the wins.
