Top Rank has announced the supporting bouts for Emanuel Navarrete’s February 28 unification fight with Eduardo Núñez, filling out a card that blends prospect development with veteran testing.
Headlining the undercard is a welterweight bout between unbeaten Philadelphian Tahmir Smalls and experienced contender Abel Ramos. Smalls enters the fight at 16-0 following a recent decision win over Jose Roman Vazquez. The matchup represents a step up against a proven opponent who last fought Mario Barrios to a draw in 2024.
Smalls said the fight is intended to establish his position in the division, while Ramos described the opportunity as a chance to reassert himself after a competitive run against top-level opposition.
There has been some uncertainty regarding the bout order. Several outlets have reported that the co-feature may instead be the super lightweight contest between Emiliano Vargas and Argentina’s Agustin Ezequiel Quintana. Vargas remains unbeaten and continues to be moved aggressively, while Quintana brings credibility after handing Marc Castro his first professional loss late last year.
Also on the card is a matchup of unbeaten super bantamweights, with Arturo Cardenas facing Jordan Martinez. Cardenas owns the deeper professional résumé, while Martinez has relied on power, stopping opponents consistently and avoiding scorecards since his early career.
Both fighters framed the bout as an opportunity to move closer to contention in a crowded division.
The February 28 event will be staged in Arizona and is headlined by Navarrete’s unification attempt. With multiple undefeated fighters and several career-defining tests on the undercard, the card reflects Top Rank’s effort to balance title stakes with forward-looking matchups.
