Demsey McKean stopped Toese Vousiutu in the seventh round Friday night in Australia after an all-action brawl that gave fans more drama than most heavyweight scraps deliver. McKean looked to have the better of the fight, but Vousiutu had more than a few periods of momentum before the southpaw unleashed a barrage mid-way through the seventh round. Despite the onslaught, Vousiutu never went down, but referee Phillip Holiday had seen enough and stepped in to end the fight.
The fight was competitive in stretches, with Vousiutu showing heart and landing enough to make McKean work. But the skill gap was clear, and once McKean found his rhythm in the seventh, the outcome was inevitable. Vousiutu absorbed heavy punishment without folding, but Holiday made the right call to wave it off before things got worse.
