Munguía Targets Osleys Iglesias For Vacant IBF Title

Fernando Sabatini reported that Jaime Munguía’s team plans to request a mandatory fight against Osleys Iglesias for the vacant IBF super middleweight title.

According to Sabatini, the request follows recent movement at the top of the division after Terence Crawford retired and Canelo Álvarez declined to participate in the IBF title process. With the belt vacant, Munguía is positioned to pursue a title opportunity through the sanctioning body.

Sabatini also stated that Munguía’s return to the ring has been delayed. The current expectation is for Munguía to resume activity in April 2026. That timing would allow the IBF process to move forward if a mandatory bout is ordered.

Munguía remains undefeated at 43 and 0. He has competed exclusively at super middleweight since his move up in weight. Iglesias is also undefeated at 15 and 0, with all wins by knockout. He has been advancing through the IBF rankings during the past year.

Recent IBF communications have indicated that Munguía is eligible to be ordered into a title fight, according to promoter statements. No official order has been issued at this time.

If approved, the fight would determine the next IBF super middleweight titleholder. No date has been announced. No contracts have been signed. The situation remains subject to the sanctioning body confirmation.

For Munguia and his team to be willing to face boogeyman of the 168 pound division, Iglesias, it’s possible that they’ve spotted a weakness in his game.
