“I hit up Al Heyman and hit them PBC all the time,” Charlo said. “I personally think it might be something with the people that’s operating. They might not really f*** with me or like me.”
Charlo’s frustration reflects a strange position for a fighter who once held all four belts at 154 pounds. He is no longer champion, but he has also not re-entered the contender flow. Fighters in that position typically take a return bout to reintroduce themselves and reestablish demand. Charlo is not interested in easing back.
Instead, he has gone directly to promoters in search of major fights, including reaching out beyond his existing promotional structure.
“I have wrote Eddie Hearn. Hello, Eddie. Please answer my DMs,” Charlo said. “I want you to set up something between me and your best fighter Boots.”
That approach makes clear Charlo is aiming for immediate relevance rather than rebuilding gradually. He mentioned names like Jaron Ennis, Errol Spence Jr., and Sebastian Fundora, while also expressing confusion about why he remains inactive despite his efforts.
“Stop asking me why the f*** am I not fighting,” Charlo said. “I’m hitting up the people every day. I don’t have nobody else to go to.”
Charlo also revealed that he has managed himself for most of his career, without relying on a traditional manager to navigate negotiations and secure opportunities.
“I don’t have a manager. I managed myself over 15 years in my career,” he said.
That independence helped him reach the top of the division, but it may now be complicating his return. Fighters who operate without strong promotional momentum or an active title position often depend on network schedules, promoter priorities, and opponent availability. Without those pieces aligned, even a former undisputed champion can find himself waiting.
Charlo insists he is still committed to working with Premier Boxing Champions, but his comments suggest uncertainty about how quickly anything will materialize.
“I’m going to stay loyal to Al Heyman and PBC right now,” Charlo said. “Hopefully we can work with every promoter that’s out there. I want to fight everybody.”
His inactivity has already reshaped the division he once controlled. Fundora holds the WBC and WBO titles. Other fighters have moved forward while Charlo has remained on the outside, watching and calling for opportunities rather than participating in them.
He believes he is still capable of competing at the highest level, and he wants the chance to prove it against a meaningful opponent rather than through a gradual comeback.
“I want to fight,” Charlo said. “Put me in the ring. Let me lose then. Let me go out on my shield.”
Charlo has made clear that he wants back in, but he is trying to re-enter at the highest level without taking the steps most fighters take after a long absence. He continues to call for the biggest names while insisting he is being left out, which leaves his return dependent on someone else agreeing to meet him there. He still believes he belongs at the center of the division, but right now, he is waiting rather than forcing his way back into it.
