Hearn Provides Sheeraz To Diego Pacheco’s 168-lb Choices

Canelo is currently without a confirmed opponent for his next fight and is expected to target one of the fragmented titles in the division. Pacheco, ranked No. 2 by the WBO, is well placed for a title opportunity against Sheeraz or Munguia should the belt become available. Securing a title would strengthen Pacheco’s standing in the division and make him a more viable option for Alvarez.

“That decision by Terence Crawford means a lot of the belts become vacant,” Hearn said to the press. “So you’ve got Sheeraz against [Christian] Mbilli. Now with the WBO, you’ve also got Sheeraz against [Diego] Pacheco.”

The WBC has ordered Sheeraz to face interim champion Christian Mbilli for its vacant title. However, Ring Magazine posted this week that Riyadh Season has shown interest in a potential fight between Pacheco and Sheeraz, without specifying which belt would be involved.

The WBO would be a logical option if that matchup moves forward, given that Pacheco is ranked #2 and Sheeraz # 3, with Canelo currently holding the top position.

“I think it’s more likely you’re going to see Pacheco against Sheeraz or Munguia,” Hearn said. “If he wins one of those fights, I think he puts himself right in line for the Canelo Alvarez fight.”

Riyadh Season is expected to influence which opponent Pacheco faces next. Ring Magazine’s post has placed added attention on the Sheeraz matchup, though no fight has been finalized.

A bout with Munguia could be more difficult to make following recent losses on his record, while Pacheco’s clinch-heavy win over Kevin Lele Sadjo last weekend may also factor into matchmaking considerations.
