Researchers use melting temperature to analyze protein thermal stability and have several fluorescent dyes at their disposal that can detect protein unfolding. While this method works well for soluble proteins, it is not effective for membrane proteins due to their intrinsic hydrophobicity. Considering this, scientists have developed alternative fluorescent dyes with spectral properties more suitable for studying membrane proteins, but these dyes have particular excitation and emission ranges necessitating specialized instrumentation.
Download this application note to learn how UV-ready real-time PCR systems, combined with alternative fluorescent dyes, enable sensitive and reliable thermal-shift analysis of membrane proteins.
