Conor Benn has stated that he intends to win the WBC welterweight title in 2026.
Benn made the comment on X, where he wrote that this year he will become WBC world champion at 147 pounds. The statement was made without confirmation of a scheduled title fight.
Last month, Benn was installed as the number one ranked contender at welterweight by the World Boxing Council. The decision drew criticism from fans and observers. Benn has not fought at 147 pounds since 2022.
Benn last fought in November 2025, when he won a 12 round unanimous decision over Chris Eubank Jr. The fight took place at middleweight in London. Benn used a rehydration clause for the bout. Eubank Jr. was 36 years old at the time of the fight.
Some fans on social media have described Benn’s rise to the top of the WBC rankings as an example of nepotism. Benn is the son of former two division world champion Nigel Benn.
The current WBC welterweight title is scheduled to be contested on February 21, when champion Mario Barrios faces Ryan Garcia. Benn has said he wants to challenge the winner of that fight. No official order has been issued by the WBC.
Benn has also mentioned interest in potential fights with Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney. Neither fight has been announced or confirmed.
For now, Benn’s title intentions remain stated rather than scheduled.
