Bohachuk Edges Butaev By Break up Resolution

The middleweight co-main event on the Zuffa Boxing 02 card went the distance, with Ukraine’s Serhii Bohachuk earning a split decision over Russia’s Radzhab Butaev on February 1 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The bout streamed on Paramount+ and marked Bohachuk’s first appearance at 160 pounds.

Bohachuk entered the contest after moving up from junior middleweight following repeated weight difficulties at 154. Butaev, a former WBA welterweight titleholder, opened the fight with steady output and consistent body work. He found success early with counters and clean shots in close exchanges, and several observers had him ahead on the scorecards during the opening rounds.

As the fight continued, Bohachuk increased his output in the middle rounds and worked behind combinations. Much of the action took place at close range, where both fighters landed punches during repeated exchanges. Post fight punch statistics indicated that Butaev landed more punches overall, while Bohachuk maintained a steady work rate across the second half of the bout. No knockdowns were scored during that portion of the fight.

The tenth round followed a similar pattern. The round featured frequent exchanges, with Bohachuk throwing combinations and Butaev landing counters and body shots. Neither fighter showed signs of fatigue, and the action remained competitive through the final bell.

After ten rounds, Bohachuk was awarded a split decision by scores of 96-94, 96-94, and 94-96. Two judges favored Bohachuk, while one scored the fight for Butaev. The close margins reflected the competitive nature of the bout, which remained contested throughout.

The win improves Bohachuk’s record to 27-3 and represents a successful debut at middleweight following his move up in weight. Butaev falls to 16-2 after the loss, which came in a bout that generated strong reaction from viewers due to its sustained exchanges and consistent pace from both fighters.
