Nike’s inflatable puffer jacket de-puffs to chill you down

Leveraging the company’s longtime use of air bladders to improve the cushioning in its shoes, the Nike Therma-FIT Air Milano jacket is made from a soft but durable two-layer composite laminate material that can be inflated or deflated in seconds. When filled with air the jacket is better at trapping body heat for more insulation, and when deflated it provides about as much warmth as a lightweight hoodie, according to Nike. Unlike traditional puffer jackets filled with down or an engineered insulator, the Air Milano is easier to compress and stuff into a bag or suitcase while traveling.

Nike hasn’t said if or when the jacket will be available to the public or how much it might cost, but it will make its first public appearance during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, where it will be worn by Team USA athletes as part of their medal ceremony outfits. But this isn’t the first appearance of this unique technology. Nike released its first inflatable jacket, the ACG Airvantage that you could blow up like a balloon, back in 2008. Earlier this year the company revisited the concept with its ISPA Adapt Sense Air jacket that instead uses a compact motorized air pump similar to what the new Air Milano uses.
