Cairo’s Grand Egyptian Museum is on Friday finally opening its doors, unveiling a vast collection of artefacts – some never before shown to the public – after more than two decades in the making and a series of protracted delays caused by political instability, the Covid-19 pandemic, and regional conflicts. Authorities have said that “kings, princes, heads of states and government leaders” will attend what is expected to be a more than lavish inauguration ceremony, but have not yet been named them.
