IBF Extends Deadline For Torrez–Sanchez Eliminator Talks

The IBF has granted an extension to negotiations between Richard Torrez and Frank Sanchez for an ordered heavyweight final eliminator.

The two sides were originally given a December 17 deadline to reach an agreement. According to The Ring, the IBF has now extended the negotiation period to January 6. If a deal is not reached by that date, the bout will move to a purse bid.

Sanchez is ranked No. 3 by the IBF. He is seeking to re-establish himself following a seventh-round stoppage loss to Agit Kabayel in May of last year, a fight in which he was dropped twice. Sanchez returned to action in February with a third-round TKO win over Ramon Olivas Echeverria.

Torrez is ranked No. 4 by the IBF. The 2020 Olympic silver medalist remained active this year with victories over Tomas Salek and Guido Vianello.

Over recent months, Moses Itauma, Efe Ajagba, and Filip Hrgovic have all declined opportunities to face Sanchez, according to prior reports.

No further action is expected until the January 6 deadline.
